Sneaky Weight Loss Secrets

After the excesses of the festive season, it is not unusual
for many of us to feel bloated, uncomfortable and
unhappy. Many will start the New Year with a new diet
to lose the unwanted weight.
The secret to sustainable weight-loss, however, is not a
new diet. The secret is to balance your “molecules of
emotion” which is just another name for the four neurochemicals
in your nervous system which need to be
fairly balanced to help control your weight. Dopamine
and acetylcholine are energising hormones while
GABA and serotonin have a relaxing effect on the
body. What you eat and how you live influences
these hormones and how they help to regulate your
metabolism. The following “sneaky secrets” are actions
that can help balance your “molecules of emotion”.
These steps will make you feel good and you won’t
even notice that you are actually taking steps to
manage your weight.
1. Accept yourself for who you are right now. Not who
you were ten years ago or who you hope to be six
months from now. No matter what the scale says,
you are beautiful today.
2. Breathe deeply and often. Imagine breathing in
through your feet and out through your head for
extra energy or, to de-stress, breathe in and then
imagine pushing your breath with all the stress and
toxins it contains, down and out through your feet.
3. Go for a walk in the nearest park or a lane lined with
beautiful trees, do some energetic house-cleaning
or wash your car, rake up some leaves or plant
some trees or switch on some music and dance
until you are hot and sweaty.
4. Become a fussy eater. Say no thank you to junk
– as well as processed food and insist on natural,
wholesome and balanced meals and eat smaller
portions, more often.
5. Fresh, clean water is still the best beverage for
people who care about their health. Water is
needed to support your body’s metabolic functions,
to carry vital nutrients and chemical messengers to
each and every cell, and to clear out toxins.
6. Think of three small, meaningful acts of kindness
you can perform today, like phoning someone who
is lonely or buying something small to give to the
car guard, or…..well, the list is endless….. Be creative
and just watch how you feel lighter by the end of
the day.
