A hangover is felt when too much alcohol has been consumed in a
short period of time and unpleasant symptoms are
felt: headache, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, light sensitivity
and dehydration. The liver is the main organ where alcohol
is metabolized by an enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase
(ADH). Eat before drinking so as to slow the absorption of
alcohol. Have olive oil or dip bread into the olive oil which also
slows down the absorption. Take B vitamins prior to the party as
well as before bedtime as they aid liver detoxification. Women
at the time of menses tend to be low in estrogen which means
they are prone to getting drunk quicker. Bifidus powder is the
“friendly” bacteria, that detoxifies acetaldehyde, a digestive
byproduct of alcohol that is a major cause of hangovers.
Herbs, such as Milk Thistle, protect liver cells from alcohol by
preventing toxins from entering the cells and help to remove
existing toxins. Take before and after drinking. Feverfew for the
headache, tomato juice the morning and vitamin C at least
1000mg the morning after will assist in a hangover. For every
glass of alcohol you drink, drink at least one
glass of water. Before bed, drink a sports drink
to replenish electrolytes lost.
