LinkUp Western Cape

Summer has also arrived in the Cape, and
it’s time to get excited, get outside and get
active for our planet. Greenpop, the Cape
Town-based urban greening, reforestation
and sustainability organisation, is offering a
variety of opportunities for green-fingered
Capetonians (and anyone in the Western
Cape!) to get active this summer.
Greenpop is hosting two open nursery
days in November and December, which
are free and open to all members of the
public. The first is on 15 November, and
the second is on 13 December. Are you
keen to get your hands dirty for a good
cause? Greenpop’s open nursery days
are lively, fun-filled and educational. Help
with mulching, composting, caring for
herbs, seedlings and trees, and learn about
nature in a fun environment.
Greenpop’s nursery days are also fantastic
opportunities for eco-education. Learn
about how to start your own compost, or
care for seedlings, how to plant a tree,
upcycle and bring sustainability into your
own life. It’s fun for adults and kids alike,
and you’ll also be helping to care for
the trees that Greenpop plants all over
Cape Town as part of its Urban Greening
Programme. Greenpop’s nursery is at the
top of Mountain Road in Woodstock, Cape
Town, and their nursery days usually run
from 10am to 2pm.
There’s more! Head to
to find out more about all the ways you can
get active for a more sustainable future
this summer. There, you can find out how
to activate your company by going treeplanting
with Greenpop or donating trees
(trees also make a fantastic corporate gift
at Christmas time – grow a forest in your
company’s name!), getting your school
involved in greening projects, or blazing
your own trail as a solo green activist!
It’s also almost Christmas, and this festive
season, why not gift a living tree to your
loved one and help the planet breath!
Christmas is traditionally a time of family,
celebration, gift-giving and – even in the
southern hemisphere – Christmas trees
bedecked in baubles and twinkly lights. This
year Greenpop is urging the people of the
Western Cape to forego wasteful stockingfillers
and celebrate Christmas with a gift
that grows!
A gifted tree will continue to provide joy
long after the excitement of traditional gifts
has faded, and a tree is a wonderful living
tribute. Greenpop will plant the tree on
your behalf in Africa’s southernmost forest
– the Platbos Forest, Overberg Region,
South Africa. In return, you will immediately
receive a personalised certificate
along with the GPS coordinates of your
gifted tree. Visit Greenpop’s website – – to find out more.

Greenpop is on a mission to (re)connect people with our planet. Greenpop
plants trees and has fun doing it! They run urban greening and reforestation
projects, spread environmental awareness wherever they go, and activate
people through green festivals and workshops. Greenpop was founded in
2010 and has since planted over 70,000 indigenous and fruit trees at schools
and other urban sites, community farms as well as forests across South
Africa, Zambia and Tanzania.
